Thursday 8th February – FILM NIGHT
This showing of L’Armée Des Ombres (Army of the Shadows) took place as usual at the Charlemagne Film Club at the West Worthing Hall, was the dramatised true story of a small French resistance movement during the war. It was a powerful glimpse into the levels to which some individuals will risk everything when they feel they must for their country.
A brilliant film in French with subtitles and for an entry fee of just £5 which included a glass of wine and a doughnut – great value for money!

THURSDAY 1ST FEBRUARY
saw a group of 30 of us playing this ancient game over five tables in the West Worthing Baptist hall. When the final scores were totalled, the winners were announced as David Wallis, ably supported by Christopher and Catherine Dodge.
Our grateful thanks also go to Catherine with the help of Carole Yates who prepared a delicious ploughman’s meal for the contestants.

THIRTY FIVE of our members gathered at the West Worthing Baptist Church Hall on Thursday 26th October. This was an excellent evening and superb fish and chips supplied by Broadwater Fryers! The two films are on Youtube and the links are available on request.
Thursday 28th September
at West Worthing Baptist Church
With thirty two competitors again we had almost a full house and, despite some very difficult questions (and some easy ones of course) many congratulations to the winners, Margaret and Ron with Ann and Geoff who scored 43 out of 50 and earned themselves a bottle of wine each.
Waldkirch in the Black Forest
For those of us who were lucky enough to go to Waldkirch on this exchange, our thanks must go to Barbara Schindelhauer and Barbara Thien for their amazing hospitality during our stay as well as the volunteer host families. Click HERE for a short video of our visit which gives a hint of what we enjoyed.
Germany Exchange – July 2023
Carol Cranford has kindly written a report on our German trip
Twenty five members of the WTA enjoyed a highly successful visit to our twin town of Waldkirch in the Elztal. We were warmly welcomed in glorious sunshine by our friendly and hospitable German hosts. Activities arranged for us included a summer concert in the very impressive Karl Burger giant factory with live band and light show, a coach trip to lake Titi with guided tour of the Sankt Peter abbey church and library on the way. We also took a train and bus trip to visit a water powered historical hammer workshop with most members continuing on the return train to Freiburg where a wine festival was being held.
On the final day an interesting talk was given by the owner of a famous gem cutting workshop in Waldkirch now preserved as a museum. We then attended a formal reception at the Elztal museum with ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’followed by a concert by the Sir Robert Woodard Academy in the Margarethenkirche.
Throughout the visit were generously provided with delicious meals at various restaurants. Chairman Cristopher Doidge expressed grateful thanks for giving the WTA members a wonderful time and invited the German group to visit Worthing next year.
Back in June, we has a fabulous few days when 18 of our French guests were entertained to a range of visits around Sussex. Lancing College, Bosham, Chichester, Arundel, Brighton plus Worthing Town Hall, Shuffleboard and a meal to remember. Click HERE for a brief video

WTA Film season
After 8 excellent films provided by Christopher Doidge over the previous 6 months, it has finished for the Summer and will resume in October. These evenings normally start at 7.15 p.m. in the West Worthing Baptist Church. Tickets are £5 which includes a glass of wine and quite often a doughnut! All films are sub-titled so no worries if you not entirely fluent in French or German!.
Wine and cheese tasting event
on 25th May was good fun as usual, just as well it wasn’t taken seriously as we would have been most embarrassed with our low score!
Quiz and Ploughman’s Social
Last Thursday 27th April 32 WTA members gathered in the West Worthing Baptist Church Hall for a Quiz and Ploughman’s Evening. The evening was not without conflict and debate with the master of ceremonies (and the man with the answers) Dave Short but everyone enjoyed an excellent time. We hope to arrange more of these during the coming months.
Lunch
On 10th March we visited the Arundel Restaurant at Northbrook College and had an enjoyable lunch
Shuffleboard
On 26th January we held a Shuffleboard Evening with a French style Ploughmans which was very successful and the winning team of Laura Early, Ann Steddon and Howard Johnson were given a bottle of wine each. Thanks to Laura and Catherine and all those who helped on the night.
