Les Sables d'Olonne

The background to our twin town

Situated on the west coast of France and the home of the single handed yacht race, the Vendée Globe, this is one of the most varied and fascinating seaside resorts you could ever want to explore.

From an extended walk along the truly splendid promenade which overlooks the extensive sands to a  meander through the delightful side streets before heading off to the port and a quayside which houses a vast range of restaurants. You will love your visit here.

Prior to a march through the town with eight international twinned groups in local costume, WTA made an effort dressed as a version of Morris Dancers and a great day was had by all!

Le Club Français

The fourth Saturday of the month

10am until 12pm

Come and enjoy a two hour session of a French ‘experience’

If you have an interest and even just a little knowledge of French, you really will enjoy coming along to our monthly Club Français get together, to immerse yourself in a morning of French language and culture.

You will be welcomed on arrival with a cup of tea or coffee (and a biscuit) and then take a seat at a table with other equally interested Francophiles. You will also be presented with ‘un exercice en français’ on paper. This is for you to complete using whatever assistance you choose such as a dictionary, or the person next to you!  You are free to work with others, or on your own, but at the end, the answers and explanations will be given. You simply mark your own work, and the results are for you alone, but you will have learned something new!

After the theme-based exercise, there will be a fifteen-minute Pause Café for refreshments with baguette, cheese, pâté and a glass of wine or juice.  The second half is a short présentation en français where a guest speaker will entertain you in French on a familiar subject. If your level of French isn’t as high as you would want it to be, don’t worry, you won’t be totally lost as you will have a questionnaire (in English) to help test your understanding. At the end of the presentation, we will provide the answers to the questions before the session ends!  The intention? A relaxed and interesting two-hour morning session for all levels.

Location: The Guide HQ Hall, Forest Road, Worthing BN14 9NE with parking in nearby roads
